When the games in a 'Final' version, a console release may become profitable enough to happen, but it's a simple fact that each versions console release cost much more than on PC. When a PC gets an exclusive, it's because it's more profitable to develop and update on PC. XCOM was a PC game released on console because that's what publishers usually do, when they chase profit's, I doubt XCOM 2 is PC only for any other reason than that's where the biggest profit was made with XCOM.Ĭonsoles buy exclusives because they can't get them any other way, they also charge excessively for just an update, never mind the game. I hope you get your console version if that's where you want it, but though Firaxis is doing the right thing, supporting the community that kept the sales going long after they stopped on console, they are only doing so because 2K allows it, the publisher makes decisions based on profit and nothing else. I choose the platforms and stores I will use and only get games that meet my requirements, I'm the customer and I decide what I use not publishers. I'm an ex console only user, who switched to PC for modding, not hard to figure that one out, but also in reaction to the ransoming of titles the consoles like to call exclusives, plain and simple blackmail is what I call it. However to buy any platform (for a specific game), before the games requirements are announced, makes no sense at all. Why anyone would buy a console for XCOM 2 is beyond me, I understand being disappointed if you only own a console already and then discover XCOM 2 is PC only.

So, best mod support available is more accurate. Now XCOM 2 has arrived and has the best mod support possible?, Well an offline, DRM free game installer, without a forced online connection for the SPG, would be even better, preferably from GOG, but anywhere will do as long as SPG has no online client. THe biggest honour for any XCOM mod, is to become part of Long War. Noone mods XCom EW, we mod for Long War, first now. XCOM today is much easier to mod, becuase of tools designed for and by the Long War Team.

XCOM wasn't designed to be easy to mod, that just makes what Long War has achieved even more remarkable. Steam says I've spent 1342 hours in XCOM and it's all on Long War.Īs good as EW may be, it also has a limited tutorial.ĮW is Long War's limited tutorial, the mod is that good, it was my runner up for Game of the Year in 2015, only my best Game of All Time, was good enough to keep it from the top spot, it should be no surprise that was Witcher 3. That was about the beginning of 2015, to me and thousands of PC users XCOM is Long War, Not EW.

Sound business decision, modding is the lifeblood of XCOM and PC is where it's done, I never knew XCOM even existed, until I saw Long War Streamed. Firaxis never said it wasn't getting a console release, just that it was releasing on PC first.
